ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer continued their unbeaten streak with a 4-1 victory over Lyon College on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets sit atop the American Midwest Conference standings with a conference record of 3-0 and overall record of 10-0.

HSSU outplayed their AMC counterpart in both halves of Saturday's matchup, posting 21 shots, 12 shots on goal, and four goals. Two-time conference defender of the week, Lisa Peitz, dominated once again making seven saves on eight shots on goal from the Scots.

As usual, the women came out of the gate with a ton of offensive pressure. Three minutes in, Madlen Bodewig fired a shot on followed seconds later by a Malou Hagedorn shot that was blocked at the net.

Two minutes later, a shot on goal from Mary Grace Angeli set up a corner kick. Yasmina Dressen took the corner kick, which Hagedorn promptly headed into the back of the net for the game's first goal.

Lyon answered in the ninth minute when Kimberly Fretwell buried a pass off a corner kick taken by Abby Ponder.

The two teams continued to exchange shots back and forth, but the goaltenders were up to the task until the 44th minute. Maria Sosa scored the go-ahead goal with seven seconds remaining in the half to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead heading into the locker room.

HSSU again got off to a hot start to begin the second half. They took three shots on goal in the first four minutes of the second half, followed by another Sosa goal in the 50th minute, assisted by Rachael Manly.

The Hornets defense kept the Scot offense relatively quiet for the remainder of the game, and a goal from Angeli iced the game in the 89th minute with a 4-1 final score.

Next up for the Hornets is an AMC matchup at Columbia College on October 9. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
