BATESVILLE, Ark. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University softball team was back in action when they traveled to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in an AMC doubleheader. The Hornets were swept in the doubleheader as they lost the first game by a final score of 31-0 and the second game by a final score of 21-2 to fall to 0-13 on the year and 0-11 in the American Midwest Conference. With the sweep, the Scots improve to 9-21 on the year and 4-6 in the AMC.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Hornets put together two hits in the contest. The Scots scored 19 runs in the bottom of the first, four runs in the bottom of the second, and eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to solidify the first game of the doubleheader.
Brandi Bradford (0-12) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed 12 hits in 0.2 innings in the circle.
Zaria Palmer came in to relieve Bradford as she allowed eight hits in the final 3.1 innings of the game.
Anna Wheeler and
Zaria Palmer led the way at the plate as they each picked up one hit in the contest.
The Hornets picked it up offensively in the second game and were able to put together a season high 6 hits in the contest. The Scots got on the board first in this one as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to an early lead. The Hornets battled back and were able to score two runs in the top of the third to cut the Scots lead to 4-2. However, Lyon scored seven runs in the bottom of the third and 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth to solidify the sweep.
Brandi Bradford (0-13) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed 19 hits while striking out one in 4.0 innings in the circle.
Ciara Clark-Payton led the way at the plate for the Hornets as she went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. In addition,
Caitlyn Chandler,
Zaria Palmer,
Zhenelle Winston, and
Brandi Bradford all recorded hits in the game.
The Hornets will return to the field on Wednesday, April 14
th when they travel to Lincoln, Illinois, to take on the Lincoln (Ill.) College Lynx in a nonconference doubleheader. The doubleheader is set to star at 2 p.m.
