HANNIBAL, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University softball team was back in action when they traveled to Hannibal, Missouri, to take on the Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University Trojans in an AMC matchup. The Hornets were swept in the doubleheader as they lost the first game by a final score 18-0 and the second game by a final score of 14-0 to fall to 0-7 on the season. With the sweep, the Trojans improve to 8-11 on the year.
The Hornets had a tough time getting anything going in the first game as they were held to just one hit in the contest. The Trojans picked up four runs in the first, three runs in the second, nine runs in the third, and two runs in the fourth to solidify the win.
Brandi Bradford was the starter in thus one as she allowed 15 hits while striking out three in 4.0 innings in the circle.
Zaria Palmer picked up the only hit for the Hornets in the contest.
The Hornets continued to struggle at the plate in the second game as they picked up just one hit in the contest. However, they played tough defense and kept the Trojans off the board until the second inning. The Trojans scored two runs in the bottom of the second, four runs in the bottom of the third, and eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to solidify the sweep.
Brandi Bradford was once again in the circle for the Hornets as she allowed 15 hits while striking out two in 4.0 innings.
Anna Wheeler led the way at the plate as she recorded the only hit for the Hornets in the game.
The Hornets return to the field on Tuesday, April 6
th when they travel down the street to the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis to take on the Eutectics in an AMC doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 2 p.m. with the second to follow. No visiting team spectators will be allowed to attend.
