ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Harris-Stowe women's soccer picked up their sixth consecutive win to remain unbeaten in 2021 after taking down the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Hornets' defense and goaltending were stellar once again, while the offense scored a pair of goals in the first half and never looked back.
Mary Grace Angeli put the game's first goal on the board for the home team just four and a half minutes into the first half to put the Hornets on top 1-0. Roughly 20 minutes later, Angeli assisted a Rachael Manley goal to widen the gap to two heading into halftime.
In the second half, the women continued to pour on the offense, with Rosa Schellman hitting twine from deep outside the goalie box, another Manley-Angeli combination goal, and the fifth from Annesta Richards in the 71st minute.
In total, the Hornets fired 25 shots (eight on goal) while the defense allowed just six shots, three of them saved by goalkeeper Lisa Pietz to earn the shutout.
Harris-Stowe will look to keep momentum going into their first conference game on Monday against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Hornet Field.
