Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hornets Stay Unbeaten on the Season

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer team was back in action when they played host to the Waldorf (Iowa) University Warriors in a nonconference matchup. The Hornets defeated the Warriors by a final score of 2-1 to improve to 4-0-0 on the season.

The Hornets came out in the first half and had a tough time keeping possession as they turned the ball over several times in the middle of the field. The Warriors took advantage and were able to score a goal 20 minutes into the game to make the score 1-0. The Hornets tried to get one back before the break but the score remained 1-0 at the half.

The Hornets picked it up to start the second half and were able to tie the game just 16 minutes into the period. Maria Jose Sosa had the goal for the Hornets as she finished off a pass from Rosa Schellman for her first goal of the season. Harris-Stowe was back at it again just a few minutes later when Leslie Ballard blasted a shot past the Warriors keeper and into the back of the net for her first goal of the year. The Warriors did their best to find the equalizer but the Hornets back line stood tall as they cruised to their fourth win of the year.

Lisa Peitz (4-0-0) and Annesta Richards split time in goal for the Hornets as they combined to make two saves in the game.

The Hornets are back in action on Friday, September 10th when they play host to Sterling (Kan.) College in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 3 p.m. on Hornets Field.
