Dear Hornet Nation,
It's that time of year again. The leaves are turning and the cool breeze from the banks of the Mississippi has made its way down Market and Olive to the heart of Midtown, the only HBCU in the City of St. Louis: Harris-Stowe State University.
You, the alumni, paved the way for an incredibly special group of student athletes that have worked tirelessly to make you proud, both on and off the field of play. Our student athletes currently hold a cumulative GPA of above a 3.0, do community service in the St. Louis community on a monthly basis, are Champions of Character award winners and so much more. This Homecoming week, many of the student athletes that you paved the way for will be in action and they need your support.
Following an 18-2 season in 2021-22 and a trip to the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Championship game, our women's soccer program is currently 10-3-1, coming off of a big 4-0 victory against University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy. Team captains, Rachael Manley, Lillian Ruckaberle and Annika Fischer, are asking for Hornet Nation to be there this Wednesday, October 26th, at 1:00 PM at Hornets Field in a rematch of the 2021-22 AMC Championship game vs. Columbia College, who is currently ranked #13 in the country!
After a trip to the 2021-22 Men's Soccer AMC Championship Game, our men's soccer program is currently 8-4-2 and coming off of a 4-0 victory against University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy. They will take on the #19 ranked Columbia College Cougars following the women's game on Wednesday, October 26th at 3:00 PM at Hornets Field. Team captains, Mickel Ravello, Ina Silva and
Tjorven Bruns need Hornet Nation there! Both the men's and women's soccer programs are led by Harris-Stowe alum,
Scot Vorwold.
Having their best season in the modern era, our volleyball program is 11-8 and has a BIG match on Friday, October 28th, at 6:00 PM vs. Iowa Wesleyan University! Earlier this season, the Hornets swept Iowa Wesleyan in a non-conference match up. Team captains, Jayden Sortor, A'Nia Ware and Ariel Stroud, ask that everyone wear pink on Friday night for the Dig Pink game in honor of the lives that have been impacted by breast cancer. You can purchase your Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirts

The next day, Saturday, October 29th, marks the first home game for new Head Women's Basketball Coach,
Morra Gill McDaniel, and the women's basketball program. With a core group of returners from last season's team that won a post-season game, including team captains, Kya Gordon and Taia Smith, we're excited to see what this season brings! Tip-off will be at 3:00 PM vs. Simmons College, an HBCU out of Louisville, KY.
In his first year, Head Men's Basketball Coach,
Michael Cook, and the men's basketball program will close out Homecoming against Philander Smith College, an HBCU in Little Rock, AR. A program that has won three conference tournament championships in the past 6 years, led by their captains, Ken Martin and Taj Toney, this group is focused and can't wait to get back on the floor. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
Lastly, although they won't be in action, we have strong tradition in baseball and softball with both programs being led by Harris-Stowe alumni in Pernell Roberts, Jr. and
Larry Young. Track & Field is a program that has housed American Midwest Conference Champions and they are looking to have a strong 2022-23 campaign. Our cheer program, led by SGA President, Cameron Lowery, will be front and center, keeping the gym ENERGIZED at the women's and men's basketball games on Saturday, October 29th!
