ST. LOUIS – The Harris-Stowe State University Hornets and Columbia College Cougars will compete for the American Midwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship for the second year in a row.
In order to reach the championship, the Hornets had to go through the Spartans of Missouri Baptist on Monday night. With sharp shots, HSSU cruised by MBU, 3-1.
With the number two and three seeds facing off, the contest was expected to be highly competitive and neither team disappointed. The opening 45-minutes was scoreless, proving the defenses were fully locked in.
The second half got off to a quick start when Mary Grace Angeli scored an unassisted goal at the 47:15 mark for Harris-Stowe. Missouri Baptist responded with their only goal of the contest at 53:40, when Jordyn Besserman found Madi Dunahue in perfect scoring position.
Angeli stepped up again to break the tie on a pass from Lillian Ruckaberle. Sara Pablos scored the final goal at 66:32.
Harris-Stowe's goalie, Amelie Durupt allowed one goal and two saves while playing all 90 minutes.
The Hornets improve to 13-4-1 overall while the Spartans end the season 12-5-2.
Harris-Stowe and Columbia (#1-Seed) will face off on Thursday, November 10th at 6:00 p.m. in Columbia, Mo. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
