Meghezi Scores Twice, Lady Hornets Advance to Semifinals With 3-0 Win

CREVE COEUR, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer picked up a 3-0 win on Tuesday afternoon at Lou Fusz Athletic Field #10 in the American Midwest Conference Tournament Quarterfinal over #6 seed Hannibal-LaGrange University. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 6-6-5 on the season while the Trojans season ends with a 4-11 record. 

Senior midfielder Alexandra Forcelius (Curitiba, Brazil/TecPuc/SWIC) had an early chance to give the Lady Hornets the lead as her shot would be stopped by the Trojans keeper. Junior midfielder Katharina Salomon (Vienna, Austria/HLTW Bergheidengasse) would be denied a goal by the keeper in the 20th minute. Freshman forward Sherasade Meghezi (Paris, France) would have her shot saved by the keeper just seconds after Salomon would have her shot stopped. Meghezi would break through with her fifth goal of the season in the 25th minute as she scored from 25 yards out. Salomon would be stopped again in the 37th minute. Junior defender Moenesa Mejias (Trinidad, Trinidad and Tobago/Lewis and Clark CC) would be denied her fifth goal in the 40th minute.

The Trojans would make a late push in the first half as their first shot missed wide, junior goalkeeper Taylor Kolinski (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Community College) would make a save and a third shot would go just wide as the Lady Hornets held a 1-0 lead at the half.

Meghezi would have another chance just 21 seconds into the second half as she would be denied her second goal of the game. Junior defender Luka Gorogranz (Berlin, Germany/Dodge City CC) would have a chance to extend the lead in the 57th minute as her shot was stopped by the Trojans keeper. Junior midfielder Mikai Neal (St. Louis, Mo./Cardinal Ritter College Prep) had her shot stopped by the keeper in the 60th minute.

Meghezi would extend the lead to 2-0 in the 66th minute with her sixth goal of the season. Mejias would have her shot saved in the 67th minute. In the 69th minute, junior forward Julia Tofane (Montes Claros, MG, Brazil/Central Wyoming CC) would get a head to the ball that would end up at the foot of Salomon as Salomon would bury her seventh goal of the season to make it 3-0. Kolinski would make a save in the 85th minute to keep the shutout in tact.

Meghezi and Tofane would record five shots in the match. Meghezi would record four shots on goal. Kolinski would make two saves in net.

The Lady Hornets held a 24-4 advantage in shots, 12-2 advantage in shots on goal and 10-1 in corner kicks. 

The Lady Hornets return to action on Friday, November 7th at 1 pm against the #2 seed Williams Baptist University in Walnut Ridge, Ark. for the AMC Tournament Semifinal.
