HORNETS DEFEAT EUTECTICS 1-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State women's soccer team was back in action when they played host to the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Eutectics, previously known as St. Louis College of Pharmacy, in an AMC matchup. The Hornets defeated the Eutectics by a final score of 1-0 to improve to 4-2 on the season and 3-1 in the American Midwest Conference. With the loss, the Eutectics fall to 4-4 on the year and 1-4 in the AMC.

The Hornets came out in the first half and dominated the possession from the start. They created several scoring chances throughout the half and forced the Eutectics keeper to make five saves. Despite controlling the tempo, Harris-Stowe was not able to find the back of the net and the score remained tied at zero at the break.

Harris-Stowe continued to put pressure on the Eutectics backline in the second half as they forced the Eutectics keeper to make a tough save, and hit the crossbar, in the first 12 minutes of the period. They were finally able to find the back of the net with 33 minutes to play in the match when Izabella Tedesco (JR/Smithton, Ill.) found Lizette Popoca (SR/Waukegan, Ill. ) who finished off her fourth goal of the season to give Harris-Stowe a 1-0 lead. The Eutectics did their best to get back into the game but the Hornets were able to close them out down the stretch to pick up their fourth win of the season.

Camila Chaves (SR/Medellin, Colombia) (4-1) was in goal tonight for the Hornets as she finished with two saves in her first solo shutout of the season.

The Hornets return to the field on Tuesday, October 20th when they play host to the Columbia (Mo.) College Cougars in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m. No spectators will be allowed but live stats and video will be provided.
