CONWAY, Ark. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer team was back in action when they traveled to Conway, Arkansas, to take on the Central Baptist (Ark.) College Mustangs in an AMC matchup. The Hornets defeated the Mustangs by a final score of 2-0 to improve to 5-3 on the season and 4-2 in the American Midwest Conference. With the loss, the Mustangs fall to 4-6 on the year.
Harris-Stowe came out in the first half and controlled the possession early in the game. They were able to take their first lead of the contest with nine minutes to play in the first half when Leslie Ballard (FR/Valley Park, Mo.) finished off a pass from Lizette Popoca (SR/Waukegan, Ill. ) for her third goal of the season to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. Harris-Stowe was back at it again with less then a minute play in the first half as Malou Hagedorn (SO/Warstein, Germany) finished off her second of the season to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead at the break.
The Hornets carried over their momentum into the second half and challenged the Mustangs keeper early but could not extend their lead. The Mustangs did their best to get back into the game but the Hornets defense stood the test and closed out Central Baptist down the stretch to solidify their fifth shutout of the season.
Ondrea Montgomery (FR/Louisville, Ky.) (1-2) was the starting keeper for the Hornets in this one as she made two saves in her first solo shutout of the season.
The Hornets will return to the field on Friday, October 30th when they play host to the Lincoln (Ill.) College Lynx in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 2 p.m. No spectators will be allowed but live video and stats will be provided.
