HORNETS FALL SHORT AT MISSOURI BAPTIST

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Tonight the Harris-Stowe women's soccer team traveled down the road to Missouri Baptist University to take on the Spartans in an AMC matchup. The Hornets were defeated by the Spartans by a final score of 2-1 to fall to 3-2 on the season and 2-1 in the American Midwest Conference. With the win, Missouri Baptist improves to 3-1 on the year.

The Hornets came out in the first half and immediately made the Spartans keeper make a save in the first few minutes of the game. The Spartans settled in as the half progressed and were able to score with 11 minutes to play in the half to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Hornets would hit the crossbar just a few minutes later on a shot from Malou Hagedorn (SO/Warstein, Germany), but ultimately the Spartans would take a 1-0 lead into the break.

Harris-Stowe turned up the pressure to start the second half and were able to tie the score at one with 30 minutes to play in the game. Lizette Popoca (SR/Waukegan, Ill. ) had the goal for the Hornets as she finished off a pass from Malou Hagedorn for her 3rd tally of the season. The score would not remain tied for long as the Spartans would score 11 minutes later to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Hornets picked up the tempo in the final 20 minutes of the game, but they could not find the back of the net as the Spartans closed them out down the stretch to solidify the win.

Ondrea Montgomery (FR/Louisville, Ky.) (1-1) was the starting keeper in the game for the Hornets as she recorded two saves in the game.

The Hornets will return to the field on Saturday, October 17th when they host the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy Eutectics in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m. No spectators will be allowed but live video and live stats will be provided.
