Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

HORNETS PICK UP FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe women's soccer team was back on the field when they played host to the Oakland City (Ind.) University Mighty Oaks in a nonconference matchup. The Hornets were able to defeat the Mighty Oaks by a final score of 2-0 to improve to 1-1 on the season. With the loss, Oakland City falls to 1-2 on the season.

The Hornets came out in the first half of the game and controlled the possession as they created two corner kick opportunities in the first 10 minutes of the contest. The Mighty Oaks settled in as the half progressed, but the Hornets were able to get on the board first as Leslie Ballard (FR/Valley Park, Mo.) finished off her second of the season midway through the half to give Harris-Stowe a 1-0 lead. The Mighty Oaks had a couple chances late in the half but ultimately the Hornets would take a 1-0 lead into the break.

Harris-Stowe continued to play well in the second half and were able to extend their lead to 2-0 when Annika Fischer (SO/Schopfheim, Germany) finished off a pass from Izabella Tedesco (JR/Smithton, Ill.) for her first goal of the season. The Mighty Oaks did their best to get back into the game and forced the Hornets keeper to make several tough saves, but Harris-Stowe's defense stood the test as they closed out the game to earn their first shutout of the season.

Camila Chaves (SR/Medellin, Colombia) (1-1) was the starting keeper in this one as she finished with two saves in the first half. Ondrea Montgomery (FR/Louisville, Ky.) (0-0) came in to play keeper for the Hornets in the second half and recorded four saves to solidify the shutout.

The Hornets will return to the field on Thursday, October 1st when they play host to the Lincoln (Ill.) College Lynx in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start a 3 p.m. Spectators will not be allowed at the contest but live video and stats will be available.
