ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe women's soccer team was back in action when they played host to the Williams Baptist (Ark.) University Eagles in an AMC matchup. The Hornets defeated the Eagles by a final score of 3-0 to improve to 3-1 on the year and 2-0 in the American Midwest Conference. With the loss, Williams Baptist falls to 0-3 on the season.
It did not take long for the Hornets to get on the board in this one as they earned a free kick just outside the Eagles box five minutes into the game. Malou Hagedorn (SO/Warstein, Germany) stepped up and took the kick for the Hornets as she was able to put it past the Williams Baptist keeper for her first goal of the season. The Hornets continued to apply pressure to the Eagles back line and were able to pick up a second goal before the end of the half when Annika Fischer (SO/Schopfheim, Germany) finished off her second goal of the year to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead at the break.
Harris-Stowe came out in the second half and controlled the possession from the start. They created several scoring chances in the first few minutes of the period but were not able to capitalize until Alicia Lovan (SR/Des Moines, Iowa) finished off her first of the season with 33 minutes to play in the game to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead. The Eagles did their best to get back into the contest but the Hornets were able to close them out down the stretch to solidify the win.
Camila Chaves (SR/Medellin, Colombia) (2-1) and Ondrea Montgomery (FR/Louisville, Ky.) (1-0) split time in goal tonight for the Hornets as the two combined to make five saves in their third consecutive shutout.
The Hornets will return to the field on Wednesday, October 14th when they travel to Missouri Baptist to take on the Spartans in and AMC matchup. No spectators will be allowed at the game but live stats and video will be provided.
