JOSEPH SCORES CAREER HIGH IN LOSS

FULTON, Mo. – The Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Fulton, Missouri, to take on the William Woods (Mo.) University Owls in an AMC matchup. The Hornets were defeated by the Owls by a final score of 89-72 to fall to 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in the American Midwest Conference. With the win, the Owls improve to 1-3 on the season and 1-1 in the AMC.

The Hornets came out in the first half of the game and found themselves trailing 17-11 in the first five minutes of the contest. They battled back and were able to cut the lead to two, but a 7-0 run from the Owls put them up 26-17 midway through the period. The Hornets continued to battle as the half progressed, but were unable to cut into the Owls lead as they found themselves trailing 52-33 at the break.

The Owls carried over their momentum from the first half into the second half and were able to extend their lead to 23 with 13 minutes left to play in the game. The Hornets did their best to get back into the contest but the damage had been done as the Owls cruised to their first win of the season.

Harris-Stowe went 25-for-62 (40.3%) from the floor and 6-for-22 (27.3%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded 37-26 and turned the ball over 13 times while forcing the Owls to turn the ball over 20 times.

Jamarr Joseph (SR/Spring Valley, N.Y.) led the way for the Hornets as he finished with a career high 20 points. In addition to Joseph, Nick McKenzie (SR/Chicago, Ill.) finished with 16 points and Nigel Hightower (SO/St. Louis, Mo.) finished with 11 points to round out the top performers for the Hornets.

The Hornets return to the court on Tuesday, January 12th when they play host to the Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University Trojans in an AMC matchup. The game is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. in the Emerson Performance Center. No spectators will be allowed at the game but live stats and video will be provided.
