ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Harris-Stowe State University women's volleyball dropped their third consecutive match on Thursday night after being swept by the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in three sets.
The Hornets battled hard in the first set, finding themselves tied at 17 late. A kill from
Ariyonna Johnson off an assist from
Mallorie Wooten put HSSU ahead, followed by a Wooten service ace that forced a UHSP timeout.
The Eutectics used their timeout effectively, coming out of the pause in play by rattling off eight straight points to take a 25-19 victory and a 1-0 lead in the match.
In set two, the Hornets took an early 6-5 lead when
Keonna Stevens sent down a kill off an assist by
A'Nia Ware. Unfortunately for the Hornets, the visitors would take the lead a few points later a coast to a 25-15 set-two win, and later a 25-17 set-three win to earn the sweep.
Johnson paced the offense with four kills in the match while
A'Nia Ware aided with seven assists.
Darlene Fenderson and
Queen Patterson were dominant up front against UHSP as well. Patterson posted six block assists while Fenderson joined in with four block assists of her own.
Conference play continues for the Hornets on Friday, October 8, when they take on Williams Baptist University at home inside The Hornets' Nest. The opening serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
