Women’s Basketball Falls to Missouri Baptist

ST. LOUIS – Harris-Stowe women's basketball fell short in their matchup against the Spartans of Missouri Baptist, 66-55. This contest served as the final conference contest for the Hornets for the semester.

Scoring started slowly for both teams as the neither was able to score before the 8:06 mark. MBU landed the first basket on a layup by Alexis Allstun. Following a turnover and foul by the Hornets, and pair of good free-throws lifted the Spartans to a four-point lead. Undeterred, Destiney Amaefula pulled up for a jumper to start scoring for Hornets. The first quarter ended with the Spartans up 19-17.

The second quarter was a defensive battle, with neither team able to run away with the contest. With 7:47 remaining, Harris-Stowe took a slight lead, 22-21, on a layup by Surina Finnie. Entering halftime, HSSU trailed 36-31.

The third and fourth quarters closely mirrored the first and second as both teams battled relentlessly for the competitive edge. At the final buzzer it was the Spartans with the advantage.

Deyanna Dodd carried the Hornets with 13-points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Keuna Cummings added 11-points, five rebounds and one block.

Harris-Stowe will play two exhibitions to close out the semester; Southeast Missouri State on December 5th and Drury University on December 9th. The contests are scheduled for 2:00 pm and 11:00 am.
