Hornets Defeat Stars 3-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer team was back in action when they played host to the Stephens (Mo.) College Stars in an AMC matchup. The Hornets were able to defeat the Stars by a final score of 3-0 to improve to 6-4 on the season and 5-3 in the American Midwest Conference. With the loss, the Stars fall to 2-6 on the year and 2-4 in the AMC.

The Hornets came out in the first half and had a tough time getting anything going in the first few minutes of the game. They settled in as the half progressed and were able to get on the scoreboard first as Izabella Tedesco finished off a cross from Adrianna Smith for her first goal of the season to make the score 1-0. The Hornets were back at it just a few minutes later as they earned a free kick 40 yards from goal. Lillian Ruckaberle stepped up and took the kick for the Hornets and was able to find the back of the net for her first goal of the season to make the score 2-0 at the break.

The Hornets came out in the second half and were able to extend their lead to 3-0 in the first minute of the period. Claire Roberts had the goal for the Hornets as she was able to finish off a cross from Adrianna Smith for her first tally of the season. The Stars picked up the pressure following the goal, but the Hornets back line stood strong as they cruised to their sixth win of the year.

Ondrea Montgomery (2-3) was in goal tonight for the Hornets as she made four saves in her second shutout of the season.

The Hornets will return to the field on Wednesday, March 24th when they travel to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 3:30 p.m. No visiting team fans will be allowed to attend the game.
