BATESVILLE, Ark. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer team was back on the field when they traveled to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in an AMC matchup. The Hornets were defeated by the Scots by a final score of 4-1 to fall to 6-5 on the season and 5-4 in the American Midwest Conference. With the win, the Scots improve to 5-5 on the season and 5-3 in the AMC.
Harris-Stowe came out in the first half of the game and controlled the possession early. The Scots settled in as the half progressed and created several scoring chances throughout the period. The Hornets defense stood the test and were able to keep them out of the back of the net for the first 36 minutes of the game. However, the Scots broke into the scoring column with nine minutes to play in the half to take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
Harris-Stowe got off to a great start in the second half and were able to tie the score at one less than a minute into the frame.
Adrianna Smith had the goal for the Hornets as she was able to dribble past several defenders and beat the Scots keeper to the far side of the goal for her first tally of the season. The Scots picked it up as the half progressed and retook the lead with 18 minutes to play in the game. They continued to push the tempo and were able to score two more goals in the final seven minutes of the game to solidify the win.
Ondrea Montgomery (2-4) was in goal for the Hornets as she recorded seven saves in the contest.
This marks the end of the regular season for the Harris-Stowe women's soccer team. They have qualified for the AMC Women's Soccer Championships and will find out who and when they play following the conclusion of all conference games this weekend.
