Hornets Drop Two Against Williams Baptist

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Harris-Stowe State university softball team was back on the diamond when they played host to the Williams Baptist (Ark.) University Eagles in an AMC doubleheader. The Hornets were swept in the doubleheader as they lost the first game by a final score of 20-1 and the second game by a final score of 25-0 to fall to 0-15 on the season and 0-13 in the American Midwest Conference. With the sweep, the Eagles improve to 17-19 on the season and 7-5 in the AMC.
 
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Hornets put together four hits in the loss. The Eagles came out and scored four runs in the first, seven runs in the second, six runs in the third, and three runs in the fourth to jump out to a 20-0 lead. The Hornets battled back and were able to score a run in the bottom of the fourth but that was as close as they would get as the Eagles picked up the final outs to solidify the first game of the doubleheader,
 
Brandi Bradford (0-14) allowed 16 hits while striking out one in 5.0 innings in the circle. Caitlyn Chandler led the way for the Hornets as she went 1-for-1 with an RBI. In addition, Kyrah Greer went 1-for-3, Remani Atuatasi went 1-for-2, and Zaria Palmer went 1-for-2 with a run scored to round out the top performers for the Hornets.
 
In the second game, the Hornets put together three hits in the game. The Eagles scored three runs in the top of the first, seven runs in the top of the third, eight runs in the top of the fourth, and seven runs in the top of the fifth to solidify the sweep.
 
Brandi Bradford (0-15) was the starter in this one as she allowed 26 hits in 5.0 innings. Anna Wheeler led the way at the plate as she went 2-for-2 in the game. Remani Atuatasi also picked up a hit in the contest.
 
The Hornets will return to the diamond tomorrow, April 17th when they host the Central Baptist (Ark.) College Mustangs in an AMC doubleheader at Stars Park. The first game is set to start at noon with the second to follow.
