ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Harris-Stowe State University softball team was back in action when they played host to the Crowley's Ridge (Ark.) College Pioneers in a nonconference doubleheader. The Hornets were swept in the doubleheader as they lost the first game by a final score of 14-1 and the second game by a final score of 19-0 to fall 0-11 on the season. With the sweep, the Pioneers improve to 11-14 on the season.

The Hornets put together two hits in the first game of the doubleheader. The Pioneers got on the board first as they scored two runs in the top of the first to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. The Hornets battled back and were able to score a run in the bottom of the first, but three runs in the second, two runs in the fourth, and seven runs in the fifth solidified the win for the Pioneers.

Brandi Bradford (0-10) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed 13 hits in 5.0 innings of work. Zaria Palmer led the way offensive as she went 1-for-2 with an RBI. In addition, Remani Atuatasi went 1-for-2 with a run scored to round out the top performers for the Hornets.

The Hornets also put together two hits in the second game of the doubleheader. The Hornets played tough defense to start the game and were able to keep the Pioneers off the board early. However, the Pioneers scored one run in the top of the second, five runs in the top of the third, 11 runs in the top of the fourth, and two runs in the top of the fifth to solidify the sweep.

Brandi Bradford (0-11) got the start as she allowed 12 hits in 4.0 innings in the circle. Zaria Palmer came in to relieve Bradford as she allowed two hits in the final inning of the game. Anna Wheeler and Zaria Palmer led the way at the plate as they both went 1-for-2 in the game.

The Hornets will return to the diamond on Saturday, April 10th when they travel to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in an AMC doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 1 p.m. with the second to follow. No visiting team spectators will be allowed at the game.
