Hornets Improve to 2-0 on the Season

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer team was back in action yesterday afternoon when they traveled to Oakland City, Indiana, to take on the Oakland City (Ind.) University Mighty Oaks in a nonconference matchup. The Hornets defeated the Mighty Oaks by a final score of 2-0 to improve to 2-0-0 on the season.

The Hornets came out in the first half and controlled the possession early in the game. They were able to get on the board just 25 minutes into the contest when Annesta Richards found Mary Grace Angeli for her first goal of the season to make the score 1-0. They were back at it again just three minutes later when Nicole Garrido was able to finish off here first of the season to make the score 2-0 midway through the half. The Mighty Oaks did their best to get back into the game before the break, but the score remained 2-0 at the end of the period.

Harris-Stowe continued to apply the pressure in the second half but were unable to extend their lead in the contest. However, they played tough defense throughout the period and were able to close out the Mighty Oaks down the stretch to solidify their second straight win.

Lisa Pietz (2-0-0) was the starting keeper in this one as she made four saves in her first shutout of the season.

The Hornets will return to the field this afternoon when they take on Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to kick off at 3 p.m. CST.
