SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Saint Mary of the Woods, Indiana, to take on the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) University in a nonconference matchup. The Hornets defeated the Mighty Oaks by a final score of 1-0 to improve to 3-0-0 on the season.
The Hornets came out in the first half of the game and dominated the possession from the opening kick. It took them just under 20 minutes to get on the board in this one as
Malou Hagedorn knocked in her second tally of the season to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. Harris-Stowe continued to apply the pressure as the half progressed but were unable to add to their lead as the score remained 1-0 at the break.
The Hornets continued to control the possession in the second half as they created several scoring chances throughout the frame. However, they were unable to find the back of the net as the Pomoroys goalie made six saves in the half. The Pomoroys had a tough time getting anything going offensively and the Hornets were able to pick up their second straight shutout of the weekend.
Lisa Pietz (3-0-0) was the starting keeper in this one as she made one save in her second shutout of the weekend.
The Hornets will return to the field for their next regular season match on Saturday, August 4
th when they play host to the Waldorf (Iowa) University Warriors in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to kick off at 1 p.m. on Hornet Field.
