ST. LOUIS – In an intense battle of wills, the Hornets of Harris-Stowe cruised to a 3-1 victory over the William Woods University Owls on senior day.
The Owls were able to score first, when Nicolas Martinez sent the ball sailing past the HSSU defense at 2:07; however, it would be their only goal for the contest. At 33:24, Hubert Oduya Kopany scored on a well-placed pass from Massimo Kluver. Entering the 15-minute break, the score was knotted at one.
Scoring started quickly in the second half, with Juan Sebastian Moreno being in place to lift the Hornets up 2-1 on a pass from Leonardo Mori. The final goal of the contest was a beauty. Kluver lined up the free kick, hoping to get beyond the wall and it did. Once the ball cleared the wall, Moreno was there to score once more (55:46).
The Hornets fired off 11 shots with six being on target. Hornets goalie Jelle Dik played 85 minutes, conceded one goal and Nicholas Morales played the final 4:33. The keepers did not record any saves, as the Owls were only able to record three shots with one being on target.
