ST. LOUIS – Harris-Stowe State University's Director of Athletics, William A. Carey, is thrilled to announce Stephen Kindell as the next Head Men's and Women's Track & Field Coach.

Director of Athletics, William Carey stated, "Vision and passion were two characteristics that we were looking for in our next Head Track & Field Coach and Coach Kindell brings those and so much more to this program. His background in several areas that are important to not only growing a program but an entire athletic department as well as his ability to communicate and model a high standard will take Harris-Stowe State University to the next level."

Kindell comes to Harris-Stowe State University after serving as the International Eligibility Coordinator at the NAIA National Office from June 2022. While serving in this capacity, Kindell researched the academic and athletic histories of International students in order to establish NAIA eligibility. He also provided independent research of competitive athletic experience outside the traditional collegiate setting in countries most actively recruited to NAIA schools.

Prior to serving at NAIA office, Kindell served as the track and field coach and trainer at Blue Valley Northwest High School from February 2022 to the present. While at Blue Valley, Kindell coached state qualifying men's and women's long and triple jump to top three. He also created workouts including drills and progressions. He designed and implemented new functional strength programs for the track and field team, resulting in stronger, more explosive athletes with fewer injuries. During the off season, he trained student-athletes with personalized individual workouts. Kindell also worked as the strength and conditioning consultant/coach for other programs.

When asked his favorite quote, Kindell replied, "When I stand before God at the end of my life. I would hope that I would not have a bit of talent left and can say, I used everything you gave me"

"It gives me great honor to have been a part of this search committee for our new track and field coach. After a long process, I am very sure that Coach Kindell will do more than he has expressed. He comes with many leadership skills and characteristics that I know he will instill in our athletes here at Harris-Stowe State University. On behalf of the search committee and myself, we welcome you and your family," said Brittany Stewart, Assistant Athletic Director for Wellness & Programming.
Carey added, "Getting to today was a culmination a lot of hard work from a lot of people within our Athletic Department. I commend our staff, especially Brittany Stewart, for organizing an efficient search that identified a great candidate in Coach Kindell. I am so excited to welcome Coach Kindell and his family to Hornet Nation!"

Kindell earned a bachelor's degree in Economics from University of Missouri Kansas City in 2001.

"I'm thankful for Harris Stowe allowing me the opportunity to live my dream!" said Kindell.

Kindell is married to Jessikha N. Williams-Kindell and has one son, Kobe Lee Kindell. He is the son of Ralph and Gwen A. Kindell. He is member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated as well as the University of Missouri Kansas City Track and Field Hall of Fame (2016 Class).
