ST. LOUIS – Denale Powell has been named the Director of Athletic Marketing & Development by Athletic Director,
William Carey.
Powell was hired in 2017 as Harris-Stowe's Senior Graphic Designer within the IT department. He was later appointed, along with Dr. Stewart, to form the Marketing Communications Department in 2018. Powell served in this capacity until his promotion to a newly created position, Coordinator of Athletic Marketing and Development during the summer of 2021. He has also served as the assistant track coach since the inception of the program in 2018.
Powell holds over 20 years of professional marketing, graphic design, web design, sales and business development experience. Prior to beginning at Harris-Stowe, he worked for several Fortune 500 companies including, The MAY Company, Enterprise Rent-a-car, and KSDK News Channel 5, gaining very valuable experience in the corporate world of marketing communications, management, and new progressive media platforms.

Denale Powell did a great job building brand awareness and funds for our department. I look forward to seeing how he expands this area as we, among other things, look to increase corporate sponsorships, launch our booster club and donation platform as well as establish additional private athletic scholarships," said Athletic Director Carey.
Denale's specialties include: networking, graphic design, web design, illustration, internet marketing, SEO, mobile marketing, prospecting, business development, viral marketing, affiliate marketing, brand development, brand and identity management, contract negotiation, multi-faceted marketing plan development and implementation, art direction, marketing research, public speaking and year-long community relations campaigns that engage staff to connect with the community.
Serving his community is important to him and it shows through his organizations and affiliations. Denale is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, 100 Black Men of St. Louis, where he serves as social media chair, the National African-American Insurance Agency, Hearthland Black Chamber of Commerce, Better Family Life Economic Empowerment Chair and Black in Tech.

He served as a board member with the Board Member Health Literacy Ministry since 2013 and the Legacy Institute Non-for-Profit, founded in 2020. He is also a licensed insurance broker.
Powell, a native of Detroit, Michigan, was raised in Kankakee IL. In 1997, he enrolled at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville (SIUE) on a wrestling scholarship for the Cougars. He graduated in 2001 with a BA degree in Graphic Design and Digital Media. Powell and his beautiful wife, Morgan, 16-year-old stepdaughter Marinna and 2-year-old son Devaughn reside in Saint Louis City.
