ST. LOUIS – Brittany Stewart, a dedicated and strong supporter of the mental well-being of every student-athlete enrolled at Harris-Stowe State University, has been named the Assistant Athletic Director for Wellness & Programming, by Director of Athletics, William Carey.

With an education background to support this appointment, Stewart is the best choice possible. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Childhood Development and Family Relations, Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and a master's in Non-Profit Leadership.

Stewart understands the pressure of being a student-athlete on the collegiate level as she played for four years at Kentucky State University; with this experience she works hard to implement a safe space for student-athletes to decompress.

Stewart arrived at Harris-Stowe as the head volleyball coach in 2018 and has been dedicating her time, energy, and passion into building a solid program. In November 2021, she was named Senior Women's Administrator, a position that serves as an advocate for the female student-athletes.

Stewart reflected, "I'm truly honored to be named Assistant Athletic Director for Wellness and Programming. I'm going into my fifth year here at Harris-Stowe State University, and over the course of time I've had the pleasure of building relationships with all of the student athletes. I will continue to do as I'm doing now, focusing on the students' wellbeing, and creating a well-rounded collegiate experience."

Prior to joining the Harris-Stowe, Stewart taught third-fifth graders for three years. She also served as a behavior specialist for two years. Stewart is certified as a Mental Health Case Worker/Counselor and served diligently in that field before jumping back into athletics.

Athletic Director Carey stated, "The well-being of our student athletes is our top priority in Harris-Stowe Athletics and with her background in counseling, there is no one better to fill the role than Brittany Stewart. Since I began working with Coach Stewart, I have observed her passion for helping our student athletes with real life issues first-hand. She is caring, empathetic and encouraging which is so important in continuing to develop a positive and safe environment within Harris-Stowe Athletics."

Stewart is a native of East St. Louis, Illinois.
