Hornets Split Day One of Panthers Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LITTLE ROCK – The Hornets volleyball team traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas, to participate in the 2022 Panthers Classic. On day one, Harris-Stowe faced Langston University and Freed-Hardeman University.

In game one against Langston, HSSU dropped the contest 3-0.  With both teams going the distance, the Hornets defeated Freed-Hardeman 3-2.

Game v. Langston:

In the opening game of the season, HSSU recorded 27 kills on 94 attacks. Keeping errors to a minimum, Harris-Stowe only tallied 22 across three sets. The Hornets also recorded six service aces.

Ariyonna Johnson recorded 12 kills on 25 attacks while A'Nyla Watson tallied six kills on 24 attacks.

Game against Freed-Hardeman:

This contest literally came down to the final set. Leading the Hornets were Jayden Sortor with 12, A'Nyla Watson with 9 and Ariel Stroud with eight. Ariyonna Johnson recorded six aces, Sortor tallied three, while Watson recorded two.

Queen Patterson led the team with nine blocks, Sortor added five and Watson and Watson tallied four. A'Nia Ware exploded with 30 assists and Makayla Henandez finished with 13 digs.

As a team, Harris-Stowe recorded 46 kills on 125 attacks and 24 blocks.

Head Coach Brittany Stewart stated, "The level of talent that these young ladies have is amazing. We are still conditioning right now and finding what works for us and what doesn't. We upset a team this weekend and it felt really good to get the W."
