ST. LOUIS – The Harris-Stowe State University Hornets dropped a close conference contest to the Owls of William Woods on Thursday evening in Fulton, Missouri. Despite the temperature outside, both teams set the court on fire, on the way to a 56-47 conclusion.
The Hornets set the pace early, exiting the opening ten-minutes with a 15 to 11 advantage. The second set of ten saw the Owls close the gap but it wasn't enough to take the lead entering the locker rooms for halftime, as HSSU was able to maintain a one-point advantage (24-23).
In the second half, William Woods was able to build on the momentum they carried into the break, outpacing the Hornets 21-17 in the third and 12-6 in the fourth.
Destiney Amaefula scored 20-points, seven rebounds, four steals, one assist and one block for the Hornets, while Taia Smith put up a double-double with 14-points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Autumn Brown tallied four points, three rebounds and one assist.
The Hornets will host the Columbia College Cougars on Tuesday, January 10th at 5:30 pm in the Emerson Performance Center on the campus of Harris-Stowe State University.
