Mount Vernon, OH. -- The Harris Stowe- State University men's basketball team traveled to Mount Vernon, OH to participate in the Mount Vernon Nazarene University homecoming classic and went 1-1 over the weekend.
In the first contest the Hornets took on a tough-minded, experienced Mount Vernon Nazarene team. Both teams battled back and forth the first 10 minutes with MVNU holding a 7-point lead 37-32. But untimely turnovers and hot shooting from the host team, Harris Stowe-State went into half down 18 points and never recovered losing the contest 95-69.

Patrick Evans scored a team-leading 21 points to pace the Hornets, while senior guard
Ken Martin grabbed eight rebounds.
The next night Harris Stowe-State took on Taylor University. From the tip, both teams battled in a back-and-forth low scoring game. Harris Stowe extended the advantage to 29-20 before a free throw, and then a coast-to-coast drive finished by a layup from Taylor getting within six at the break.Â
Finding a basket was tough for both teams with the Hornets shooting 36.7percent from the field, 26 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.6 percent from the free throw line, while Taylor shot 35.4 percent from the field, 22.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 65.2 percent from the charity stripe.Â
