Lady Hornets Volleyball Falls to Stephens College

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's volleyball fell in three sets (20-25,10-25,9-25) to Stephens College on Thursday night during their pink out night. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 4-19 on the season and 0-8 in American Midwest Conference play while Stephens improves to 10-15 on the season and 6-1 in AMC play.

After falling behind 6-1 in the first set, the Lady Hornets used a 9-5 run to cut the deficit to 11-10. Two kills from senior middle hitter Jayden Sortor (Sherman, Ill./Parkland College), a kill from freshman outside hitter Serenity Baker (Desoto, Texas/Desoto) and a Stars attack error would help the Lady Hornets tie the set at 14. The Stars would then go on a 8-3 run to go ahead 22-17. A quick 3-0 run by the Lady Hornets would cut the lead to 22-20 before a 3-0 run by the Stars would help close out set one in the favor of the Stars 25-20.

The Lady Hornets would hold a 5-3 lead before a 13-4 run by the Stars to go from a two point deficit to a nine point lead. The Stars would close out set two 25-10. In set three, with the set tied at 1-1 a 12-0 run by the Stars would put the set out of reach as it was to much to over come for the Lady Hornets as they would fall 25-9 in set three.

Sortor would lead the way with six kills and four blocks (one solo and three assists), sophomore setter Isa Smith (Little Rock, Ark./Joe T. Robinson) would record nine assists and sophomore outside hitter Kyla McReynolds (O'Fallon, Ill./Althoff Catholic) would record 12 digs.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Tuesday, October 29th at 6 pm at Emerson Performance Center against Philander Smith College,
