Two Goals in Final Three Minutes Propel Lady Hornets Soccer to 4-3 Win

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer scored two late goals to pick up a 4-3 win on Saturday afternoon at Hornets field against Williams Baptist University. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 5-5-2 on the season and 2-2-1 in American Midwest Conference play while the Lady Eagles fall to 4-11 on the season and 2-4 in AMC play.

Senior defender Brianna Williams (Peoria, Ill./Metamora/Illinois Central) nearly gave the Lady Hornets the lead 90 seconds into the game, but was turned away. After a cross into the box from senior midfielder Jasmin Kraus (Munich, Germany/Technische FOS Munchen/SWOSU) would find the foot of sophomore midfielder Katharina Salomon (Vienna, Austia/HLTW Bergheidengasse) the Lady Hornets would take the lead in the 16th minute. 

After a turnover by the Lady Eagles, Salomon would pass it to Williams who snuck it passed the keeper to put the Lady Hornets up 2-0 in the 27th minute. The Lady Eagles would cut the lead in half the 32nd minute with a goal from 30 yards out. The score would remain 2-1 going into the half.

The Lady Eagles would tie the game on another long goal in the 53rd minute. Williams nearly scored her second of the game 47 seconds after the Lady Eagles tied the game. The Lady Eagles would take their first lead in the 75th minute.

Senior midfielder Annalisa Castro (Udine, Italy/IT Zanon/Reinhardt University) nearly missed giving the Lady Hornets the lead in the 61st minute on a free kick before she would bury a penalty with three minutes left after the Lady Eagles were called for a handball in the box. Senior midfielder Layla Weston (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) would score with 87 seconds left in the match after a crossing attempt from Kraus was bobbled by the keeper to out the Lady Hornets up 4-3 with the second goal in the final three minutes to complete the comeback.

The Lady Hornets would hold a 21-5 advantage in shots, 11-3 in shots on goal and 8-1 in corner kicks.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Tuesday, October 29th at 12 pm against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy at SLU high school.
