Women's Soccer Picks Up 3-2 on Senior Day

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer picked up a 3-2 win on senior day at Hornets Field against Stephens College on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 7-5-2 on the season and 4-2-1 in American Midwest Conference play while the Stars fall to 2-11-2 and 1-6 in AMC play. The Lady Hornets also clinched the number four seed in the AMC tournament with the win.

The Lady Hornets would have two chances early in the match to take the lead, but were unable to find the back of the net. The Stars would take the lead in the 11th minute after the ball bounced in the box off the corner and would be tapped in to put the Stars up 1-0. In the 25th minute, senior defender/midfielder Layla Weston (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) would find the back of the net with a header after a crossing pass from senior forward Tallulah Nemet-Sargent (Wellington, New Zealand/Queen Margaret College/Mississippi Valley State University). Senior goalkeeper Andrea Mohn (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South/St. Louis Community College) would make a save in the 28th minute to keep the score tied at one where it would stay going into the half.

The Lady Hornets would continue the pressure in the second half before senior midfielder Jasmin Kraus (Munich, Germany/Technishce FOS Munchen/SWOSU) would put the Lady Hornets up 2-1 in the 58th minute. Mohn would preserve the lead with a diving save in the 62nd minute to keep it 2-1 and lead to a counter attack after the rebound went wide. Kraus would score her second of the game in the 69th minute to out the Lady Hornets up 3-2. The Stars would cut the lead to 3-2 in the 70th minute on a long free kick. 

The Lady Hornets would hold a 17-12 advantage in shots, 12-5 in shots on goal and 10-9 in corner kicks.

Before the game, the seniors were honored. The seniors include student manager Massimo Kluver, Mohn, Nemet-Sargent, Weston, Kraus, defender Mara Waltrich (Bad Schwalbach, Germany/Nikolaus-August-Otto-Gesamtschule), midfielder Annalisa Castro (Udine, Italy/IT Zanon/Reinhardt University), midfielder Anna-Lena Moritz (Regensburg, Germany/Gymnasium Schrobenhausen/University of Regensburg), midfielder Laura Caceres (Bogota, Colombia/Colegio John F Kennedy/Paris Junior College), defender Brianna Williams (Peoria, Ill./Metamora /Illinois Central College), forward Keysli Elias-Gonzalez (Carthage, Mo./Carthage/Coffeyville CC), midfielder Yasmina Dressen (Herzogenrath, Germany/Europaschule Herzogenrath Stadtische Gesamtschule), and defender Soraya Aguero (El Paso, Texas/El Dorado/Heartland CC).

The Lady Hornets return to action on Friday, November 8th at 1 pm at Hornets Field against the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in the quarterfinal round of the AMC tournament as the Lady Hornets are the four seed and the Eutectics are the five seed.
