Women's Soccer Earns 5-0 Win Over UHSP in AMC Quarterfinal

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer picked up a 5-0 win at Hornets Field on Friday afternoon in the American Midwest Conference tournament quarterfinal against the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 8-5-2 on the season and advance to the AMC quarterfinal while the Eutectics season ends with a 6-9-0 record.

The Lady Hornets would score just 51 seconds into the game after the ball bounced around the box to the foot of senior defender Brianna Williams (Peoria, Ill./Metamora/Illinois Central College) and she would bury it into the net for a 1-0 lead. Freshman goalkeeper Lena-Marie Winkler (Dornbirn, Austria/BORG Schoren) would make a leaping save in the 26th minute to keep the score 1-0. The Lady Hornets would create numerous chances to score in the first half, but would take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, senior midfielder Annalisa Castro (Udine, Italy/IT Zanon/Reinhardt University) would make it 2-0 in the 47th minute after senior midfielder Layla Weston's (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) shot would be blocked and end up at the foot of Castro. Weston would pick up an assist on the play. Williams would pick up her second of the the game and fourth of the season in the 57th minute after she snuck the ball past the keeper on the near side post. Just 27 seconds later senior midfielder Jasmin Kraus (Munich, Germany/Technische FOS Munchen/SWOSU) would take the cross from freshman midfielder Emma Auer (Kindberg, Austria/HIB Liebenau) to make it 4-0 Lady Hornets. Senior forward Anna-Lena Moritz (Regensburg, Germany/Gymnasium Schrobenhausen/University of Regensburg) would find the back of the net in the 86th minute to push the lead to 5-0.

Winkler would make five saves in net for the Lady Hornets while picking up her sixth win of the season and lowering her goals against average to 0.90.

The Lady Hornets would tie their season-high with five goals. They would record their most shots attempted with 35, most shots on goal with 14. The Lady Hornets would hold a 35-11 advantage in shots, 14-5 in shots on goal and 7-6 in corner kicks.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Monday, November 11th against the winner of Central Baptist/Columbia match. If Central Baptist wins, the Lady Hornets would host the Mustangs at 1 pm on Monday at Hornets Field. If the Cougars win, they will host the Lady Hornets at 6 pm on Monday in Columbia, Mo.
