LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball falls 100-84 in overtime at Simmons College of Kentucky on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 1-2 on the season while the Lady Falcons improve to 1-2 on the season.
After a layup from junior forward
Marchi Hunter (Menifee, Calif./Vista del Lago) would cut the Lady Falcons lead to 15-14 would start and 8-4 run to close the quarter after freshman guard
Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) would make two free throws, freshman guard
Dyonna Moore (St. Louis, Mo./Vashon) and freshman forward
Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) would both make layups late in the first quarter to help the Lady Hornets hold a 20-19 lead after one.
The Lady Hornets would start the second quarter on a 10-7 run thanks to layups from Davis, senior guard
Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville), jumpers from senior forward
Toree Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central), a jumper and another layup from Dilosa to go up 30-26. A three from Dilosa would push the lead to 34-28 before the Lady Falcons would close out the quarter on a 4-2 run. The Lady Hornets would hold a 36-32 lead at halftime.
A three from senior guard
Lauryn Evans (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) would push the lead to 41-36 early in the third quarter. Evans would hit another three to push the lead to 47-38 and a layup from Moore would push the lead to 51-40. A three from Dilosa would give the Lady Hornets a 57-42 lead with 2:20 left in the third quarter. The Lady Falcons would close the third quarter on an 11-3 run to cut the Lady Hornets lead to 60-53.
The Lady Falcons would continue their run early in the fourth and cut the lead to 64-61 after Jackson made two free throws to give the Lady Hornets a three point lead. The Lady Falcons would go on a 9-6 run that would leave the score tied at 70. A three from Montgomery would put the Lady Hornets up 77-72 with 3:11 left in regulation. The Lady Falcons would go on an 8-3 run to tie the game at 80 and send the game to overtime. The Lady Falcons would outscore the Lady Hornets 20-4 in overtime.
Dilosa would finish with a career-high 32 points and nine rebounds. Jackson would record a game-high 14 rebounds. Jackson and senior guard
Samara Swire (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) would dish out five assists each. The Lady Hornets went 27-66 (40.9 percent) from the field, 6-18 (33.3 percent) from three and 24-34 (70.6 percent) from the free throw line. The Lady Hornets recorded a season-high with 56 rebounds, 44 defensive rebounds, 14 assists, 24 free throws made, six threes made, and tied a season-high with 34 free throws attempted.
The Lady Hornets are back in action on Wednesday, November 13th against Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo. at 5:30 pm.
