Men's Basketball Second Half Comeback Falls Short

Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball fell 70-58 to Hannibal-LaGrange University on Thursday night at Emerson Performance Center. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 4-7 and 1-2 in American Midwest Conference play while the Trojans improve to 4-6 and 1-2 in AMC play.

Senior guard Seth Chargois (Tulsa, Okla./Johnson Community College) would hit a three to open the scoring. A three and two free throws from senior forward Keondre Brown (Los Angeles, Calif./Grandview University) would give the Hornets an 8-3 lead. The Trojans would go on an 8-0 run to take an 11-8 lead. Chargois would make a layup to cut the deficit to 11-10. A layup from junior forward Jalen Watson (East St. Louis, Ill./St. Louis Community College) would cut the deficit to 14-12. After a three from senior guard Bennie Amos III (New Orleans, La./Delgado Community College) would tie the game at 17, the Trojans would go on a 10-0 run to take a 27-17 lead. Junior forward Ty Lampley (Belleville, Ill./Rend Lake Community College) would cut the deficit to 27-19. The Trojans would use a 12-3 run to open their lead before taking a 41-28 lead into the half.

Amos III would make a jumper and a three while Watson would add a jumper to open the second half on a 7-0 run to cut the Trojans lead to 41-35. A jumper and a three from Chargois would cut the lead to 45-40 with just under 14 minutes to play. The Trojans would extend their lead to 50-42 before trading threes that left the Hornets trailing 53-45. After a jumper by Lampley to cut the lead to 53-47 and three from Brown to cut it to 55-52 a three from the Trojans would push the lead to 58-52. A jumper from sophomore guard Daniel Hayes (Detroit, Mich.) would cut the deficit to 58-56 with 4:02 to play. The Trojans would close out the game on a 12-2 run and take the 70-58 win.

Amos III would lead the way with 18 points, while Chargois added 12 and Lampley added 10 off the bench. Watson would record seven rebounds while Brown and Chargois recorded six each. Amos III would add six assists and two steals, Chargois added three steals and Hayes added two steals.

The Hornets went 22-56 (39.3%) from the field, 7-28 (25.0%) from three and 7-13 (53.8%) from the free throw line.

The Hornets return to action on Saturday, December 7th at 3 pm at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo.
