Women's Basketball Picks Up 53-29 Win Over Hannibal-LaGrange

Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball picked up a 53-29 win over Hannibal-LaGrange University on Thursday night at Emerson Performance Center. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 2-4 and 1-2 in American Midwest Conference play while the Trojans fall to 3-6 and 0-3 in AMC play.

Freshman forward Tyara Davis would put the Lady Hornets on the board with 6:15 left in the first quarter. After two free throws tied the game a three from senior guard Samara Swire (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) would give the Lady Hornets a 5-2 lead. A jumper from Swire and a layup from Junior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) would push the lead to 9-2 and the Lady Hornets would lead 9-4 after one.

Junior forward Marchi Hunter (Meniffe, Calif./Vista del Lago) would keep the lead at 10-6. A three from Swire would push the lead to 13-6. A jumper from freshman guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) an a jumper from senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) would give the Lady Hornets a 20-7 lead. The Lady Hornets would hold a 20-10 lead at halftime.

Dilosa would make two free throws to start the third quarter before a jumper from Jordan would push the lead to 14. Jordan would give the Lady Hornets a 28-17 lead before a layup from Swire would give the Lady Hornets a 30-17 lead. A jumper from Swire and a jumper from Dilosa would give the Lady Hornets a 34-21 lead after three quarters.

A jumper layup from Dilosa and a jumper from Davis would keep the lead at 13. Swire's three would give the Lady Hornets a 43-27 lead with 4:21 left to play. Dilosa and Jordan would score the next eight points to push the lead to 51-24. Swire would make a layup to help secure the 53-29 win.

Swire would lead the way with 17 points, while Dilosa added 14 and Jordan added 10 off the bench. Davis and Jordan would each record eight rebounds. Swire, Davis and Montgomery each recorded three assists. Jordan also added three steals and a block.

The Lady Hornets went 23-67 (34.3%) from the field, 4-25 (16.0%) from three and 3-5 (60.0%) at the free throw line. 

The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, December 7th at 1 pm at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo.
