Hornets Softball Falls on Road at Blackburn

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - Harris-Stowe State University softball fell in both games of the doubleheader to the Blackburn College Beavers on Wednesday afternoon. The Hornets fell 5-2 in game one and 20-0 in game two in five innings. The Hornets fall to 0-8 on the season while the Beavers improve to 3-9 on the season.

In game one, the Beavers scored two runs in the bottom of the first and one in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-0 lead into the fifth. The Hornets would cut into the lead and cut the deficit to two thanks to freshman Morgan Nettles (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) reaching on an error by the shortstop as that would score freshman Ramaya Atuatasi (San Diego, Calif./Hover). 

The Beavers would regain their three run lead in the in the bottom of the fifth and score two runs to take a 5-1 lead. Nettles would drive in her second run of the game on a RBI double to center as Isabella Romualdo (Aiea, Hawaii/Moanalua) would score on the double.

In game two, the Beavers would strike early and often scoring as the Beavers scored three in the first, five in the second, four in the third and eight in the fourth. Romualdo had the lone hit in game two for the Hornets.

The Hornets are back in action on Thursday, March 21st at Hornets Field against Oakwood University with game one starting at 1 PM.
