ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University softball team lost both games of the doubleheader on Thursday at Hornets Field against Oakwood (AL) University. The Hornets fell in five innings 14-2 in game one and 9-4 in game two. The Hornets fall to 0-10 on the season while Oakwood improves to 5-15 on the season.
In game one, the Ambassadors scored in the top of the first thanks in part to a double from Kaley Fuller. The Hornets would tie the game in the bottom half after freshman
Laurann Brown (New Providence, Bahamas) reached on an error by the third baseman and an RBI single on a bunt back to the pitcher freshman
Ramaya Atuatasi (San Diego, Calif./Hover). Oakwood would regain the lead with a three run top of the second. The Ambassadors would tack on six runs in the top of the third and four in the top of the fifth.
The Hornets second run would come on an RBI groundout from freshman
Remani Atuatasi (San Diego, Calif./Hover) as freshman
Gracie Schmitte (San Diego, Calif./Mar Vista) would score on the play.
In game two, the Ambassadors would once again score first as Taylor Mancone would deliver a double to leftfield. The Hornets would tie it in the bottom of the first as
Ramaya Atuatasi would single to left and score Schmitte. Oakwood would get the run back in the top of the second and take a 2-1 lead into the third and tack on five more runs in the top of the third to hold a 7-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth
Desirae Atencio (Alberquerque, NM/Ecademy Virtual) would drive in a run on a sac bunt that scored Schmitte. The Ambassadors would add two in the sixth to take a 9-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
Atencio would drive in her second run of the game with a single down the rightfield line as
Ramaya Atuatasi would score. In the bottom of the seventh Ramaya would drive in her second run of the game on her second double and fourth hit of the game as
Isabella Romualdo (Aiea, Hawaii/Moanalua) would score from first as she pinch ran for Schmitte.
In the two games
Ramaya Atuatasi was five-for-six at the plate with two doubles, three runs batted in and a run scored.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday, March 23rd at Hornets Field as they open American Midwest Conference play against Stephens College with game one starting at 2 PM.
