ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University softball fell to Stephens College in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Hornets Field. The Hornets fell 10-2 in game one and 22-5 in game two. With the losses the Hornets fall to 0-12 on the season and 0-2 in American Midwest Conference play while the Stars improve to 9-17 and 2-0 in AMC play.
The Stars would take a quick 3-0 lead in game one before the Hornets would hit. In the bottom of the first freshman
Gracie Schmitte (San Diego, Calif./Mar Vista) would deliver a two-run single as freshman
Laurann Brown (New Providence, Bahamas) and
Desirae Atencio (Alberquerque, NM) would score on the play.
The Stars would score five in the second and two more in the fourth.
In game two, the Stars would score six runs in the first before the Hornets came back with four of their own. Brown would score on a wild pitch, Atencio would score on an error off the bat of
Christal Smith (Jacksonville, Fla./Terry Parker).
Isabella Romualdo (Aiea, Hawaii/Moanalua) would single to right driving in freshman
Ramaya Atuatasi (San Diego, Calif./Hover) and freshman
Teahna Phillips (Jefferson City, Mo.) would single to center bringing around Smith.
The Stars would break the game open scoring 15 runs in the second and they would add one more in the third. Freshman
Remani Atuatasi (San Diego, Calif./Hover) would single in Atencio. Remani would record two hits on the day and an RBI.
The Hornets are back in action on Sunday, March 24th at Hornets Field against Columbia College with game one starting at 2 pm.
