NEVADA, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University softball fell in both games of the doubleheader to Cottey College on Sunday afternoon. The Comets took game one 20-0 and game two 8-0. The Lady Hornets fall to 0-35 and 0-14 int American Midwest Conference play while the Comets improve to 26-16 and 10-4 in AMC play.
The Comets came out early in game one with three runs in the first before scoring four in the second and third and nine more in the fourth. Junior infielder
Morgan Nettles (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) recorded two hits in game one while sophomore outfielder
Juanesha Washington (St. Louis, Mo./Carnahan) recorded the other hit in game one for the Lady Hornets.
In game two, the Comets scored three runs in the first and one in the second. The Lady Hornets best scoring opportunity in game two came in the top of the fifth. Senior infielder
Remani Atuatasi (San Diego, Calif./Hoover) singled with one out in the fifth, Nettles and senior utility player
Laurann Brown (New Providence, Bahamas) would single to load the bases, but the Comets would escape the jam.
The Comets would score four more in the sixth against the Lady Hornets. Freshman pitcher
Desirae Atencio (Albuquerque, NM/Ecademy Virtual) would record the other hit in game two for the Lady Hornets.
The Lady Hornets return to action on Friday, April 19th at Hannibal-LaGrange University with game one starting at 2 pm.
