Hornets Softball Falls in Hard Fought Doubleheader against Hannibal-LaGrange

HANNIBAL, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University softball fell in two hard fought games against Hannibal-LaGrange University earlier today. The Lady Hornets fell 7-4 in game one and 9-4 in game two against the Trojans at Veterans Field. The Lady Hornets fall to 0-37 on the season and 0-16 in American Midwest Conference play while the Trojans improve to 5-37 and 3-13 in AMC play.

In game one, the Lady Hornets would jump out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning. The big hit in the inning was a two-out bases clearing double off the bat of freshman pitcher Desirae Atencio (Albuquerque, NM/Ecademy Virtual) as senior outfielder Isabella Romualdo (Aiea, Hawaii/Moanalua), senior outfielder Laurann Brown (New Providence, Bahamas) and sophomore outfielder Juanesha Washington (St. Louis, Mo./Carnahan) would all score on the double. Sophomore infielder Ramaya Atuatasi (San Diego, Calif./Hoover) would double in Atencio to extend the lead. The Trojans would come back and take a 5-4 lead after two innings before adding a run in the third and fifth.

Junior infielder Christal Smith (Jacksonville, Fla./Terry Parker), junior infielder Morgan Nettles (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton), Brown Romualdo, Atencio all would record one hit while Atuatasi would record two hits.

In game two, the Trojans would score first with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Brown would give the Hornets a 3-1 lead after reaching on an error that would give her two RBI's as Nettles and Romualdo would score as well as Brown. The Trojans would cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the second. 

Smith would extend the lead back to two with an RBI ground out in the fifth to score Brown. The Trojans would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth with three runs and extend the lead to 9-4 with four runs in the sixth.

The Lady Hornets are back in action on Saturday, April 20th at Missouri Baptist University with game one set for 12 pm.
