ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University softball fell in both games of the doubleheader to the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Tuesday afternoon at Stars Park. The Eutectics took game one 21-0 in five innings and took game two 12-0 in six innings. With the losses the Lady Hornets fall to 0-31 on the season and 0-10 in American Midwest Conference play while UHSP improved to 11-19 on the season and 3-7 in AMC play.
Before the games the five seniors were honored in a pre-game ceremony. The five seniors honored were outfielder
Isabella Romualdo (Aiea, Hawaii / Moanalua), first baseman
Teahna Phillips (Jefferson City, Mo.), outfielder
Ondrea Montgomery (Louisville, Ky. / Louisville Male Traditional High School), utility player
Laurann Brown (New Providence, Bahamas) and infielder
Remani Atuatasi (San Diego, Calif. / Hoover).
In game one, the Eutectics scored two runs in the top of the first and three in the second to take a 5-0 lead. The Eutectics extended the lead with two more runs in the third and seven in the fourth and fifth innings. The Lady Hornets best chance to get on the board was in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore infielder
Ramaya Atuatasi (San Diego, Calif, / Hoover) would get hit by pitch followed by a walk to Remani. A single by Romualdo would load the bases with one out, but the Eutectics would get out of the jam. Freshman utility player
Gracie Schmitte (San Diego, Calif./ Mar Vista) and junior infielder
Morgan Nettles (St. Louis, Mo. / Clayton) would also record hits in game one for the Lady Hornets.
In game two, the game would remain scoreless until the third when he Eutectics got on the board with two runs. The Lady Hornets had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the third after a one out singles by junior infielder
Christal Smith (Jacksonville, Fla. / Terry Parker High School) and sophomore outfielder
Juanesha Washington ( St. Louis, Mo. / Carnahan High School), but would fail to score. The Eutectics would score three more in the fourth, two in the fifth and five in sixth.
Washnigton would record two hits in game two with Schmitte,
Ramaya Atuatasi, Smith and freshman pitcher
Desirae Atencio (Albuquerque, NM / Ecademy Virtual) all record hits in the game.
The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, April 13th against William Woods University in Fulton, Mo. with game one starting at 2 pm.
