ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's volleyball team fell in four tough sets (25-15, 13-25,14-25,16-25) to Missouri Valley College on Tuesday night at the Emerson Performance Center. The Lady Hornets fall to 0-3 on the season while the Vikings improve to 7-3 on the season.
The Lady Hornets raced out to an 8-0 lead in the first set before the Vikings cut the lead to five before the next sixteen points would be split at eight to give the Lady Hornets a 16-8 lead. The Hornets would close out the first set with a 9-7 advantage over the last 16 points. Sophomore outside hitter
Kyla McReynolds (O'Fallon, Ill./Althoff Catholic) would record four of her team-high 11 kills in the first set.
The Lady Hornets would score four of the first five points in the second set before the Vikings would go on a 24-9 run to tie the match at one set a piece. The Vikings would take a 12-5 advantage in the third set before the Lady Hornets would go on a 5-2 run to cut the lead to 14-10 before the Vikings would go on an 11-4 run to go up two sets to one.
The Lady Hornets would hold a 6-4 advantage after the first 10 points of the fourth set before the Vikings would go on a 7-6 run to go ahead 13-10. The next six points were split at three with the Vikings holding on 16-13 before the Vikings would close out on a 9-3 run to take the match three sets to one.
McReynolds would also add an ace in the match. Senior middle hitter
Jayden Sortor (Sherman, Ill./Parkland College) would add eight kills on a .368 hitting percentage. Sortor would add four assists, two aces, and eight total blocks (five solo, three assists). Sophomore setter
Isa Smith (Little Rock, Ark./Joe T. Robinson) would add 19 assists in the match. Sophomore defensive specialist
Dejah Foster (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) would record a team-high 11digs while junior defensive specialist
Makayla Hernandez (San Antonio, Texas/Lawton) and sophomore defensive specialist
Alexis Kemp (Kansas City, Mo./University Academy) would add 10 digs each.
The Lady Hornets are back in action this Friday, August 30th and Saturday, August 31st at the Philander Smith Panther Classic in Little Rock, Ark. Opponents and times are to be determined.
