Lady Hornets Basketball Falls at Home to Mission

Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball falls 95-75 to Mission University on Thursday night at Emerson Performance Center. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 2-13 on the season and 1-8 in American Midwest Conference play while the Patriots improve to 11-3 on the season and 8-2 in AMC play.

Junior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) would record a jumper and senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) would make a layup and have the Lady Hornets up 4-0 early in the game. A Dilosa jumper would extend the lead back to four with a jumper. A jumper from freshman guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) and two free throws from Dilosa would give the Lady Hornets a 10-2 lead. A jumper from senior guard Samara Swire (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) would give the Lady Hornets a 12-5 lead. Junior forward Marchi Hunter (Menifee, Calif./Vista del Lago) would make two free throws to make it a nine point lead. A 4-0 run from Mission cut the Lady Hornets lead to 14-9 before Jordan made a layup to push it to 16-9 in favor of the Lady Hornets. A 7-0 Patriots run tied the game at 16. The Patriots scored seven of the last 12 points in the first quarter to hold a 23-21 lead after one.

Two layups from freshman forward Tyara Davis (Kansas City, Kan./Blue Valley North) and a layup from Dilosa would put the Lady Hornets back on top 27-23 to start the second quarter. A 4-0 run by the Patriots tied the game at 27 before two layups from Dilosa made it 31-27 Lady Hornets. A three from senior guard Lauryn Evans (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) would hit from three to put the Lady Hornets back on top 34-32. The Patriots and Lady Hornets would trade field goals the rest of the quarter with the Patriots holding a 42-40 lead going into halftime.

A layup by Jordan and a three from Evans would put the Lady Hornets on top 45-44 early in the third quarter. An 8-3 run by the Patriots pushed their lead to 52-48. Evans cut the deficit to 56-50 with a layup. The Patriots closed the third quarter with a 15-5 run to take a 71-55 lead into the fourth.

A layup and a jumper from senior forward Toree Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) would cut the deficit to 72-59. A layup from Jordan cut the deficit to 73-61. The Patriots closed out the game on a 22-14 run to pick up the 95-75 win.

Dilosa led the way with 23 points while Swire added 11 and Jordan added 10. Jordan would add 10 rebounds to help her record her second double-double this season. Montgomery would have five assists and four steals. Jordan added two blocks.

The Lady Hornets went 30-71 (42.3%) from the field, 3-8 (37.5%) from three and 12-17 (70.6%) from the free throw line.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, January 18th at 1 pm at the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy.
