Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball picks up a 74-49 win over Williams Baptist University on Thursday night at Emerson Performance Center. With the win, the Hornets improve to 6-12 on the season and 3-7 in American Midwest Conference play while the Eagles fall to 4-12 on the season and 1-9 in AMC play.
With tonight's win the Hornets swept the season series with the Eagles for the 2024-25 season as the Hornets won back in November at Williams Baptist.
Junior guard
Justin Edwards (Corona, Calif,/Oakwood University) would record layups on back-to-back possessions to give the Hornets an early 4-0 lead. Junior forward
Ty Lampley (Belleville, Ill./Rend Lake Community College) would make three free throws to push the lead to 7-0. A jumper from senior guard
Seth Chargois (Tulsa, Okla./Johnson Community College) pushed the Hornets lead to 9-2. An 8-0 run by the Eagles gave them a 10-9 lead before junior forward
Koran Johnson (St. Louis, Mo,) connected on a short jumper to put the Hornets back in front. A layup from senior guard
Bennie Amos III (New Orleans, La./Delgado Community College) pushed the lead to 13-10 and a jumper from sophomore guard
Justin Coleman (St. Louis, Mo./Delta State University) made it 15-12 Hornets.
A three from Chargois would push the lead to 18-12. Free throws from Amos III, a dunk from senior forward
Keondre Brown (Los Angeles, Calif./Grandview University) and a layup from senior guard
Kevin Jones (Sikeston, Mo./Dakota State University) would push the Hornets lead to 24-13 to force an Eagles timeout. Jones would continue the Hornets run out of the timeout with a layup that would be followed by a pair of layups from Charogis and a made free throw from Brown to give the Hornets a 31-13 lead. Two free throws from Amos III pushed the Hornets lead to 33-13. Over a six minute stretch the Hornets defense allowed zero points and went on a 15-0 run to push the lead from 18-13 to 33-13. The Hornets would hold a 36-17 lead going into the half.
A jumper from Brown extended the lead to 38-18. A layup from Jones gave the Hornets a 42-23 lead. A layup and free throw from Coleman pushed the Hornets lead to 45-29. A three, a layup and a jumper from Jones pushed the Hornets lead to 52-30. A layup and a three from senior forward
Jermarco Burse (Annapolis, Mo./Truman State University) kept the run going and pushed the lead to 57-30. A made free throw by Jones and two made free throws from Coleman gave the Hornets a 60-30 advantage with 6:28 left to play. A layup from Burse made it 62-30 Hornets.
Over another six minute stretch the Hornets pushed their 45-30 lead to 62-30 with just under six minutes to play. Chargois would make jumpers on back-to-back possessions to give the Hornets a 66-38 lead. A three from Amos III gave the Hornets a 70-39. Amos III would make two free throws and Coleman would add a layup to close the scoring for the Hornets.
Charogis led the way with 18 points while Jones added 14 off the bench and Amos III added 11. Brown recorded a season-high 10 rebounds. Chargois and Edwards each added three assists. Chargois added four steals while Brown added three. Johnson, Chargois and Brown all went for a block in the game.Â
The Hornets went 27-64 (42.2%) from the field, 5-20 (25.0%) from three and 15-21 (71.4%) from the free throw line. The Hornets defense tied their season-high by forcing 26 Eagles turnovers in the game.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday, January 25th at Emerson Performance Center against Crowleys Ridge at 3 pm.
