Lady Hornets Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw at Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer earned a 1-1 draw at Columbia College on Saturday morning. With the draw, the Lady Hornets are 3-6-4 on the season and 1-1-1 in American Midwest Conference play while the Cougars are 7-4-2 on the season and 2-0-1 in AMC play.

The Lady Hornets draw against Columbia is the Cougars first draw since 2018 as they went undefeated in AMC play from 2019 till 2025.

Junior defender Moenesa Mejias (Trinidad, Trinidad and Tobago/Lewis and Clark CC) had her header denied by the Cougars keeper in the second minute of the game. Junior forward Julia Tofane (Montes Claros, MG, Brazil/Central Wyoming CC) would have her shot stopped by the Cougars keeper in the 12th minute. The Cougars would take a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. Junior goalkeeper Taylor Kolinski (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Community College) would keep the deficit at one with a save in the 24th minute. Tofane had a chance to tie the game as her shot would be saved in the 24th minute. 

Kolinski would make another save in the 26th minute with another save. Freshman forward Sherasade Meghezi (Paris, France) would have her shot saved in the 30th minute. Kolinski would make another save in the 40th minute as the deficit would remain at one going into halftime.

A Kolinski save kept the score 1-0 in the 65th minute. Meghezi would tie the game in the 73rd minute off the assist from junior defender Luka Gorogranz (Berlin, Germany/Dodge City CC). Meghezi's goal was her fourth of the season and Gorogranz would pick up her third assist of the season. Kolinski would keep the game tied at one with saves in the 76th, 83rd and 90th minutes. 

The Cougars would hold a 14-5 advantage in shots, 8-5 in shots on goal and 6-1 in corner kicks. Tofane and Meghezi would record two shots on goal each. Kolinski made seven saves in the match.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 21st at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. at 7 pm.
