COLUMBIA, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer picked up a 1-0 win at Battle High School against Stephens on Tuesday night. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 4-6-4 on the season and 2-1-1 in American Midwest Conference play while the Stars fall to 4-10-1 on the season and 1-3 in AMC play.
With the win, the Lady Hornets clinched a spot in the AMC Tournament.
Junior defender
Moenesa Mejias (Trinidad, Trinidad and Tobago/Lewis and Clark CC) missed wide right of the goal in the fourth minute. Sophomore defender
Emma Auer (Kindberg, Austria/HIB Liebenau) would strike from 30 yards out to give the Lady Hornets a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Junior goalkeeper
Taylor Kolinski (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Community College) kept the Lady Hornets ahead with a save in the 15th minute. Freshman forward
Sherasade Meghezi (Paris, France) would be denied by the Stars keeper in the 30th minute. Mejias would have her shot stopped by the Stars keeper in the 37th minute. Junior midfielder
Katharina Salomon (Vienna, Austria/HLTW Bergheidengasse) would have her shot stopped by the keeper in the 38th minute. The Lady Hornets would take a 1-0 lead into the half.
Junior forward
Julia Tofane (Montes Claros, MG, Brazil/Central Wyoming CC) would be denied a goal in the 63rd. Kolinski would keep the Stars off the board with a save in the 64th minute. Tofane would try to give the Lady Hornets a 2-0 lead and her shot would be stopped by the keeper in the 66th minute. Mejias would have her shot stopped in the 86th minute.
Mejias would lead the way with three shots. Tofane and Mejias would both record two shots on goal. Auer would score her second goal of the season on her only shot. Kolinski would make two saves for the shutout win.
The Lady Hornets had a 9-2 advantage in shots, 7-2 in shots on goal and 3-1 in corner kicks.
The Lady Hornets return to action on Saturday, October 25th against Central Baptist at 1 pm at Cardinal Ritter High School. Saturday is senior day.
