CREVE COEUR, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer finished in a 1-1 draw on a chilly Wednesday afternoon against the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy at Lou Fusz Athletic Complex. With the draw, the Lady Hornets finish the regular season 5-6-5 and 3-1-2 in American Midwest Conference play while the Eutectics go to 7-4-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in AMC play.
The Lady Hornets would apply the pressure against the Eutectics because of the wind at their backs and were able to create chances to put shots towards the net. Junior midfielder
Katharina Salomon (Vienna, Austria/HLTW Bergheidengasse) would miss just wide in the sixth minute. Junior forward
Julia Tofane (Montes Claros, MG, Brazil/Central Wyoming CC) would hit the goal post and go across the box as no one was there to tap it into the net in the eighth minute. Salomon would get a chance in the 14th minute as her header was saved by the Eutectics keeper.Â
After Salomon would win the ball in the box, she would find junior midfielder
Ana Bernardo (Florianópolis, SC, Brazil/Talladega/Central Wyoming CC) and Bernardo would find the back of the net from just outside the 18 to give the Lady Hornets a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. Junior defender
Moenesa Mejias (Trinidad, Trinidad and Tobago/Lewis and Clark CC) would send her header over the bar in the 23rd minute. The Eutectics would tie the game at one in the 32nd minute. The game would remain tied at the half.Â
Senior midfielder
Alexandra Forcelius (Curitiba, Brazil/TecPuc/SWIC) was back in goal and kept the game tied at one with a save in the 48th minute. Salomon would have another chance to score in the 60th minute as her shot was turned away by the Eutectics keeper. The next 20 minutes of the game became a defensive battle as neither team was able to create scoring chances. Tofane had a chance from just outside the 18-yard box and sent it over the cross bar in the 89th minute and just seconds later freshman forward
Sherasade Meghezi (Paris, France) would put a shot on net as the keeper made the save.Â
Salomon and Meghezi would record three shots each. Salomon recorded two shots on goal. Forcelius made two saves in goal.Â
The Lady Hornets held a 12-10 advantage in shots and 4-3 in shots on goal. The Eutectics held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Lady Hornets return to action in the AMC Tournament. If the Lady Hornets finish second they will get a bye in the quarterfinal and host on Friday, November 7th and if the the Lady Hornets finish third they will host the quarterfinal game on Tuesday, November 4th at Lou Fusz Athletic with a 1 pm kickoff.
