HANNIBAL, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's soccer picked up a 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon at Hannibal-LaGrange University. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 3-4-3 on the season and 1-0-0 in American Midwest Conference play while the Trojans fall to 3-6 on the season and 0-1 in AMC play.
Freshman forward
Sherasade Meghezi (Pairs, France) would be denied in the 12th minunte by the Trojans keeper. Junior midfielder
Katharina Salomon (Vienna, Austria/HLTW Bergheidengasse) would be denied by the Trojans keeper in the 15th minute. Salomon's shot would also be denied by the keeper in the 21st minute. After the Lady Hornets earned a corner kick it would find junior defender
Moenesa Mejias (Trinidad, Trinidad and Tobago/Lewis and Clark CC) would head it high in the 23rd minute. In the 41st minute, junior goalkeeper
Taylor Kolinski (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Community College) would keep the game tied at zero with a save. Senior forward
Keysli Elias-Gonzalez (Carthage, Mo./Carthage/Coffeyville CC) would be denied a goal by the Trojans keeper in the 43rd minute. The game would remain tied going into halftime.
Sophomore defender
Emma Auer (Kindberg, Austria/HIB Liebenau) would have her shot turned away by the Trojans keeper in the 53rd minute. Auer would have another chance at her second goal of the season, but would be denied again in the 68th minute. Kolinski kept the Trojans off the board in the 70th minute. Meghezi would be denied her fourth goal of the season in the 73rd minute.Â
In the 76th minute, Kolinksi would turn away the Trojans to keep the game scoreless. Mejias would find the back of the net for the third time this season to make in the 79th minute to break the scoreless tie and give the Lady Hornets a 1-0 lead with 11 minutes to play. Kolinski would make two saves in the 81st and 82nd minutes to keep it 1-0 in favor of the Lady Hornets.
Auer would record five shot attempts. Salomon recorded three shots on goal. Mejias would get her first game winning goal of the season. Kolinski picked up the win stopping all six shots.
The Lady Hornets held an 18-9 advantage in shots, 9-6 in shots on goal and 6-2 in corner kicks.
The Lady Hornets return to action next Saturday, October 11th at 7 pm at Bellevue University in Bellevue, Neb.
