Lady Hornets Basketball Falls to Brescia

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University women's basketball fell 61-49 to Brescia (Ky.) University in their home opener at Emerson Performance Center on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 0-3 while the Bearcats improve to 2-2.

Senior guard Cailynn Dilosa (Gary, Ind./Merriville) gave the Lady Hornets an early 2-1 lead. Senior forward J'Lessa Jordan (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) would knock down a three to give the Lady Hornets a 5-3 lead. A jumper by sophomore guard Alivia Montgomery (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) made a jumper to extend the lead to 8-5. Two free throws by Dilosa gave the Lady Hornets a 10-9 lead. A jumper by senior forward Marchi Hunter (Menifee, Calif./Vista del Lago) tied the game at 12. The Bearcats closed the quarter with a 4-0 run to take a 16-12 lead after one quarter.

A jumper by Dilosa and a layup by Montgomery cut the deficit to 19-16 early in the second quarter. Dilosa would put an end to the Bearcats 8-0 run with a jumper to cut the deficit to 27-18. A layup by Montgomery cut the deficit to 29-20. The Bearcats would take a 31-20 lead into halftime.

Montgomery would make two free throws to cut the deficit to 35-22. A three by sophomore guard Jayla Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) cut the deficit to 35-25 with a three. A three by Dilosa cut the deficit to 37-28. A jumper by Jackson cut the deficit to 45-32. A three by Dilosa cut the deficit to 45-35. The Bearcats would hold a 45-35 lead after three quarters.

A jumper by Montgomery and a layup by Jordan cut the deficit to 47-39. A three by Dilosa cut the deficit to 56-42. Two free throw by Montgomery cut the Bearcats lead to 60-46. Dilosa would make a three to cut the deficit to 61-49.

Dilosa led the way with a game-high 22 points while Montgomery added 14 points. Jordan and Hunter each recorded seven rebounds. Jordan and Hunter recorded two assists each. Hunter recorded four blocks while Jordan added three. Jackson recorded two steals.

The Lady Hornets went 18-68 (26.5%) from the field 6-29 (20.7%) from three and 7-10 (70.0%) from the free throw line.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Friday, November 14th at 12 pm at McKendree in Lebanon, Ill.
